Caring for Solid Wood Furniture in Bangalore's Climate
Bangalore's climate is milder than most Indian cities, but monsoon humidity (roughly June through September) and dust from a growing city still take a toll on furniture. Here's how to keep your Brownhues pallet wood bed or sofa in top shape.
1. Keep it away from direct moisture
Avoid placing your bed frame directly against a damp wall, especially in ground-floor apartments. Leave a couple of inches of gap for airflow.
2. Wipe, don't soak
Use a dry or barely-damp microfiber cloth for regular dusting. Standing water or wet mopping directly on the wood can cause the grain to raise over time.
3. Control indoor humidity
During peak monsoon months, a dehumidifier or simply running a fan in the bedroom helps prevent the wood from absorbing excess moisture, which can cause slight swelling in joints.
4. Re-oil or re-wax annually
A light coat of furniture wax or teak oil once a year keeps the sanded finish looking fresh and adds a light moisture barrier — especially useful before monsoon season starts.
5. Check hardware twice a year
Pallet beds use interlocking wood joints and bolts. A quick check every six months to tighten anything that's loosened keeps the frame sturdy.
6. Termite protection is already built in
All Brownhues pine is termite-treated before assembly, so routine termite treatment isn't necessary. Every bed is also backed by a 1-year warranty. Keeping the frame dry and ventilated helps it stay in good condition long-term.
